Pop Culture Goes Wacko: a Chat with Billy Shire

If San Diego Comicon is the Mecca of Geekdom, then WACKO is the Sistine Chapel of Pop Culture. Often hailed as the "Second Happiest Place on Earth," WACKO is part Santa's Workshop and part Library of Alexandria. The original retail anchor of Melrose Avenue in the 80s, WACKO spawned La Luz de Jesus Gallery and relocated to Los Feliz where it helped to reinvigorate the ultra hip Silverlake neighborhood where it continues to expose the counterculture to the world.

On this week's podcast Matt chats with WACKO founder Billy Shire (called the "Peggy Guggenheim of Lowbrow" by Juxtapoz Magazine) about how a tiny, family-owned soap shop in Echo Park grew into the epicenter of L.A.'s cultural rebirth. This episode is a genuine slice of L.A. history as told by one the most important yet underrated tastemakers in the world.

Earn your street creed or a trip down memory lane with this episode of Pod Sequentialism with Matt Kennedy presented by La Luz de Jesus Gallery & Meltdown Comics!

Party Like It's the Apocalypse!

Wasteland Weekend is a real-life, Mad Max style, experiential mega party. If four days every September in the Mojave desert at the most over-the-top, Road Warrior theme park sounds awesome to you (and let's face it–what doesn't sound awesome about that?) this could be your Valhalla. Matt talks with festival founder Jared Butler about how a voice-over actor from Connecticut turned his fascination with post-apocalyptic pop-culture into the hottest tribal gathering since Burning Man.

Listen to it all on this apocalyptic episode of Pod Sequentialism with Matt Kennedy presented by La Luz de Jesus Gallery & Meltdown Comics!
